Ionesco, La cantatrice chauve

Eugene Ionesco’s La cantatrice chauve is a fairly simple text that can be read in French with only a limited vocabulary. It is the story of Mr & Mrs Smith, and M. et Mme. Dupont, who meet and soliloquize on the virtues of brittishness and frenchness. It is also a parody of language textbook characters – who are invariably foils for covering the bases of vocabulary and grammar, and much much more.
